Suggestion for Your LinkedIn Invitation Acceptance Message

I’ve been on LinkedIn now for about two years and have called dozens of my connections during that time. I find it very profitable to make such calls, not only to get business, but because of all the other gold that one ends up finding.

Yesterday I actually had someone call me. I am amazed at how unusual this practice is – I’ve probably only been called by my connections a hand full of times.

Anyway the call generated an idea I think you will find very profitable. Before sharing it let me just say that this blog has at least one article on calling connections, invitations, and other related items to the following suggestion if you wish to look them up.

First, you should always send a personal note of thanks to anyone who accepts or invites you to connect. Don’t forget to put something of value for the other person in that message – if you can’t think of anything just send them the link to this blog and or my name and tell them to connect as this person can be of value and the blog is loaded with great info on how to monetize LinkedIn.

Second, in that note you can add a message to the effect…

Jane, I would be delighted to speak with you if you’d like to give me a call. I find that chatting with my new connections frequently is very profitable. When you call we can investigate how we might help each other on LinkedIn.

Remember when they call to keep the conversation in that light. You should try to dominate the conversation with questions about what the other person does and wants so when you get off the phone you have a way to potentially provide them some value by helping them get closer to what they want or are looking for.

I can assure you that you engage in a handful of these calls without nice rewards. I find them extremely profitable.

In tomorrow’s post I will chat a bit about some of the questions in yesterday’s LinkedIn Power Networking Quiz giving you some ideas why these activities are so valuable.

Flyn, thank you for suggesting giving people a call when connecting with people. Adding a voice to a face brings international and on-line networking a deeper dimension (and you can tell so much about a person from their voice).

Im looking forward to more of your posts.

All the best – Maya Mendoza

I’ve always just clicked on “Accept” without realizing that doing as you suggest would be very positive. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll put your method to use in the future.

Best regards,

Flyn,

This is a great tip. I respond to all invitation with a thank you and an offer of assistance. I think sometimes, people lose sight of the fact that behind the profile/comment/invite, that there is in fact a human being. So the same desire to make a real connection should be there in the same degree as if we were to meet in person.

Thanks for sharing these ideas with us.

By the way, I would happily accept an invite to connect with you on LinkedIn. I always appreciate being connected to other intelligent professionals like yourself.

All the best,

Jason
