Monetizing LinkedIn an Ah Ha Moment Re Your Profile

I hope you enjoyed Wednesdays post re videos. Someone responded to this post re their own video and in the middle of responding to them I had an “ah ha” moment regarding profiles.

For some reason in our discussion I lost track that the video would be in the profile and went seeking it on their website. In the midst of answering I decided to scroll down the profile only to find the video in question.

It occurred to me that many do as I did and never scroll down the page of a profile unless there is a very specific reason to do so. My first thought was that this person would benefit from putting a reference to this video at the top of the summary as it would probably stop a number of folks just passing through and get them to view the video.

Then it occurred to me that if you don’t have a reason for others to engage you in the first 4-8 lines of your summary you are missing a real opportunity. Buy having such a message at the top of your profile you will engage a number of people who might have just passed over your profile without a serious look.

I would recommend that if you have a video in your profile that you reference it at the top of your summary and in either case make sure that the first couple of lines of your profile have something that would invite others to engage. Being at the top of the summary they will see this invitation even if they don’t decide to scroll through the rest of your profile.
