Two Things that Should Top Your LinkedIn Profile

If you are serious about profiting from your LinkedIn networking efforts, there are two things you should put a top your LinkedIn summary.

First, you should show the reader how you will be valuable to them as a LinkedIn connection by offering to help others on LinkedIn. This includes your wiliness to connect and to help others get connected.

It is helpful to the above purpose if you are a visible contributor of great information on the site. If people have come to your profile because of a great answer or post you made, your offer to be a valuable connection has more weight.

The second thing you must do is make a case to the reader that they should visit your website. This means you need to put valuable information on your website that your prospects and customers would want.

One of the simplest solutions is a blog. Blogs are basically content, and if you have good articles and thoughts related to your area of expertise whether you are a company or an individual you have something your profile readers might want.

You can of course do an article, report, or white paper on a hot topic. Giving away good information not only makes it worth while for profile readers to visit your site, but it helps you establish yourself as an expert or thought leader.

One last thing, you must make sure that when they arrive on your website that you have some way of engaging them.

Hey Flyn. I must say, we have had some heated sales discussions and equally heated disagreements. That being said, I like your blog, and I find your Linkedin information EXTREMELY helpful. Great work!! Nice Blog!!

Marcos A. Rondineli @ 9:49 pm September 22, 2009

Now you made me laugh.
So. I have to tell people something like:
I’ll help you. Go http://????

Flyn @ 11:34 pm September 22, 2009

Marcos…

I would be a bit more tactful than that — and you need to tell them how you will help otherwise no one is going to go to the site.

Since I don’t know what is at this address — I don’t feel comfortable sending readers there. I would prefer that if you want to put a link that you do it in your profile and tell people its there — I would be happy to add that comment to the post if you send it to me.

Interesting stuff, and certainly information worth considering.
Really, we are (all) here to help – others, and, I guess, ourselves – so doing stuff that helps can’t be bad….can it?

Hi Flyn, I liked the idea of getting to know you at your power networking seminar. Recommend you put a date when they are to take place. I followed the link only to find that the seminar is past Ann

Good point, however in the future be aware that the events page on this blog has the date info to get you to the right version of the seminar and the next one is this Thursday.
