Using Twitter to Help Your LinkedIn Networking and Vice-Versa

Here are a couple of very simple things you can do to increase your success on LinkedIn and for that matter in all of you online business networking. This can also be facilitated by including your FaceBook account in the loop.

Using Twitter to help your LinkedIn business networking

Twitter can be a powerful tool for focusing the type of people in your network. By using their search feature you con find people interested or involved in certain things.

For example, yesterday I went on twitter and searched the term “LinkedIn.” The results were posts about LinkedIn and basically a prospect list of people on Twitter interested in LinkedIn that I could follow and who would likely connect with me on LinkedIn given the chance.

This is such a simple idea most people would probably never think of it. However, in this case, it’s a great way to get more connections and focused ones at that into your network.

You obviously need to put the information in your Twitter account about the fact you are on LinkedIn and that you would be happy to connect.

The other nice thing about Twitter is that they don’t object to you putting your email and contact info on your Twitter page. The simplest way to do this is to create a background with all the information. See my Twitter profile (FlynPenoyer) for an example.

On LinkedIn it technically against the rules to have any personal contact info in your profile and depending on where you put it you could get your account suspended.

How you can use the above to help with your LinkedIn account?

First of all, you can put your Twitter name in your LinkedIn account with out risk and on your Twitter account you can give people the information to connect on LinkedIn. It’s a back door, but its totally safe as opposed to trying  to put it in LinkedIn and it gives you more ways to communicate with that person.

Second, of course, you can put in all your communications an invite to follow you on Twitter. Twitters more lenient policies on chatting with others allow you to communicate more easily.

These are very simple ideas but they do add tremendous power to your networking if you use them to your advantage.

Flyn, I like this article a lot. I’m very interested in discovering new ways to get all of my online networking resources to work with each other.

Thanks for information and I’m going to pass this on to others that may be interested.

Regarding LinkedIn, I have my personal contact info (phone # and e-mail address) included in my public profile in the Personal Information section of my profile setup.

I believe it is more personal preference versus LinkedIn rules regarding whether or not users want their personal contact info revealed or not.

There are some things LinkedIn allows you to put in but it is against their rules to put such information in sections of your profile where there are not fields for them. They have been suspending accounts for violations from what I understand.

One simple answer is to send people to your Twitter account from your LinkedIn profiel where you can create a background for your page that has all of your info — this gets you a Twitter connection as well.
