How to Use the LinkedIn Profiles of Others to Improve Your Network
Obviously if you are looking for people to hire, do business with, or joint venture looking at a person profile will be of great help. However, you can use profiles to help you build a stronger network, to help you become invaluable to others.
I’m going to touch on just a couple of things you can do by looking at the profile. These would be used when you engage that person in some way, answering or asking a question, accepting or giving an invitation to connect.
Starting a relationship instead of a simple connection.
A person’s profile gives you the means to start a relationship with the people that communicate with you. Any communication you have with other LinkedIners, except of course if it is negative, will increase the affinity (Love/Hate) you have with that person.
So when asked to connect if you simply asked the person what they liked about their job or business, you would start a conversation.
Being of immediate value
The information in someone’s profile gives you the information you need to be of immediate value. Here are just a couple of things you can do in this area.
By the profile you may be able to identify a person in your network that would be of use to this person and offer to connect them.
From there profile you may be able to identify a resource such as a website that would be of use to them.
From the data in there profile and the links to their assets (website, blog) you can make a helpful suggestion on how to improve something or get a better result. If you are a really good writer you’ll have no trouble finding something in the profile or website that can be slightly improve or was even missing that would be good to have.
Summary
If you take the time to look and think you can always use someone’s profile to improve the perception they have of you and generate reciprocity for the future.
